Xiaoxuan Liu

Dr. Xiaoxuan (Xiao) Liu is a Clinician Scientist at Microsoft AI, Associate Professor at the University of Birmingham and Associate Editor at NEJM AI. She has led internationally recognised work in responsible AI in health on evidence standards, policy, and regulation. Xiao led the development of SPIRIT-AI and CONSORT-AI, reporting guidelines for AI clinical trials, and worked on TRIPOD-AI, STARD-AI and DECIDE-AI. She led STANDING Together, a global effort to tackle algorithmic bias and improve transparency in data diversity. Xiao was previously a Health Scientist at Apple, where she worked on sensing algorithms for consumer wearables, including Hypertension Notification and Women’s Health. Before this, she was an ophthalmic surgeon in the UK NHS.
