Sara Murray
Associate Professor of Clinical Medicine and Associate Chief, Division of Clinical Informatics and Digital Transformation (DoC-IT), Department of Medicine
Dr. Murray is a strategic leader in artificial intelligence, clinical informatics, and digital health. As Vice President and Chief Health AI Officer for UCSF Health, she drives the strategy and vision for AI to transform healthcare delivery at UCSF and beyond. She also serves as Associate Chief for Health System Partnerships in the Division of Clinical Informatics and Digital Transformation (DoC-IT) at UCSF.
Dr. Murray leads UCSF’s Health AI Team, overseeing AI governance, infrastructure, and the evaluation and development of AI tools in the health system to ensure their trustworthy deployment and meaningful impact. Her work focuses on integrating AI into clinical workflows in ways that enhance care delivery, support frontline clinicians, and drive system-wide value. She played a key role in launching the Impact Monitoring Platform for AI in Clinical Care (IMPACC), a UCSF initiative designed to ensure continuous oversight of AI applications in healthcare. Beyond UCSF, Dr. Murray collaborates with policymakers, other health system leaders, and regulatory bodies to establish best practices for AI adoption and monitoring. She has advised the U.S. House of Representatives AI Taskforce and contributes to a number of national collaboratives.
Dr. Murray earned her MD from the University of California, San Francisco, where she also completed her internship, residency in Internal Medicine, and MAS in Clinical Research. She remains clinically active, caring for patients and training medical students and residents on the Hospital Medicine service at UCSF.
