Rupa Sarkar
Dr. Rupa Sarkar is a passionate advocate for the transformative potential of artificial intelligence (AI) in healthcare, with over 15 years of experience bridging scientific research and clinical applications. She is the founding Editor-in-Chief of The Lancet Digital Health and currently also serves as Engagement Director at Elsevier’s Inclusion & Diversity Advisory Board. Under her leadership since 2018, the journal has become a globally recognized platform for advancing AI and digital health innovation, setting new standards for research integrity and inclusivity in healthcare technology. With a Ph.D. in embryonic stem cell development from Imperial College London and postdoctoral training at Albert Einstein College of Medicine, Dr. Sarkar has dedicated her career to fostering interdisciplinary collaboration and driving impactful projects. She has delivered talks at over 30 international conferences, addressing critical challenges in digital health, from genomics to machine learning, and advocating for equitable representation in research. A strong believer in the power of diversity to drive innovation, Dr. Sarkar has championed initiatives to improve AI clinical standards, gender and sex reporting in research and increase representation on editorial boards.
