Genevieve Melton-Meaux, MD, PhD, trained in computer science and mathematics at Washington University before completing medical school and surgical residency at Johns Hopkins University, colon and rectal surgery fellowship at Cleveland Clinical, biomedical informatic National Library of Medicine-sponsored postdoctoral fellowship at Columbia University, and a PhD in health informatics at University of Minnesota. She is currently Professor of Surgery and Health Informatics, Director for the Center for Learning Health System Sciences, Associate Director for the Clinical NLP-IE (Natural Language Processing-Information Extraction) Research Program, and Program Director for the Clinical Informatics Fellowship at the University of Minnesota. She serves as the Chief Analytics and Care Innovation Officer for M Health Fairview leading enterprise data technology, analytics, informatics, and its Clinical Variation evidence-based care program. Her research interests are clinical NLP, surgical informatics, learning health systems, enhancing note usage in electronic health records, and improving patient care with health IT, digital including AI/ML capabilities, and patient-centric solutions. Currently she is Chair-elect of the Board of Directors of the American Medical Informatics Association and Immediate Past-President and an elected fellow of the American College of Medical Informatics.
